4 Simple and Natural Ways to Keep Your Nails Healthy

Flaunting strong and healthy nails doesn’t just take your overall beauty up a notch, but also gives other people the notion that you’re taking good care of your body. However, unlike what a lot of people mistakenly think, keeping your nails looking great and in tiptop shape doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Make sure you read on to find out more…

Make it a point to wash and clean your fingernails regularly.

A good washing keeps germs and bad bacteria away.
Bad bacteria and germs are the primary causes of nail problems. Prolonged or repeated contact with these elements doesn’t just make your nails prone to diseases, but also make them discolored, cracked, dented, curled, broken and may even promote swelling and bleeding sooner or later. Keep in mind to wash and clean your nails thoroughly with soap and water once at least every week to get rid of germs and bad bacteria. Be very careful when you use nail cleaning tools like nippers and pushers as well since they can cause injury in and around the nails if not used properly.

Give your nails a careful trim frequently.

Only use the right tools, too!
Allowing your nails to grow longer than should can lead to chipping and breakage. Besides looking ugly and sloppy, they can also cause nail problems in the long run if not taken care of appropriately like the abnormal thickening of the nails and even the separation of the same from the surrounding skin. Make sure you trim your nails straight across, while carefully rounding the tips with curves. Remember not to do it too short to prevent your nails from separating from the surrounding skin as well.

Load up on a lot of fruits and vegetables.

The fresher, the better...and the more beneficial nutrients you're getting.
You don’t have to get your hands on pricey cosmetic products and nutritional supplements that claim to keep your nails strong and healthy to do just that. The “secret ingredients” that they offer are basically found in fruits and vegetables. And you’re better off tucking in a homemade fruit mix or vegetable and herb salad than to dish out a lot of bucks for a moisturizing nail cream that may or may not work when you use it since you’re also giving your taste buds a treat.

Always use protective garments when doing activities that can harm your nails.

No protection means more nail damage.
Make it a point to use gloves and similar protective garments when gardening, landscaping, doing a bit of carpentry as well as using harsh household chemicals. Your nails are very much vulnerable to chipping, discoloration and breakage if not given the right protection while at it.
